CAMP GEN ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan – The man who killed his wife and his mother-in-law in Malolos, Bulacan, was arrested in a Manila hospital where he was confined after trying to end his life by drinking muriatic acid, police said yesterday.
Senior Supt. Ferdinand O. Divina, Bulacan police director, said the suspect, Rommel C. Layug alias “Alvin”, was arrested by his men at Room No. 688 of the Metropolitan Medical Center in Sta. Cruz, Manila, last Sunday afternoon.
The suspect was located two days after he shot and killed his wife, Gloria Camposano Layug, 29, an OFW; and the latter’s mother, Norma Chavez Camposano, 68, inside their house on Capricorn St., Saint Agatha Homes, in Barangay Tikay, Malolos City.
Based on the report of Supt. Arwin Tadeo, Malolos City police chief, Rommel and Gloria had a heated argument inside their house in Malolos City at around 9 a.m. on Jan. 23 over a third party.
Gloria called for their separation and told the suspect to go home in his house in Tondo, Manila.
The suspect left for Tondo on January 28, but came back the next day. He shot his wife and mother-in-law with a .9mm Taurus pistol.
The suspect fled and went into hiding.
Malolos police immediately coordinated with Manila Police District (MPD) Station 2 in Sta. Cruz, Manila, for the arrest of the suspect.
On January 31, Sunday, police received information that Layug was brought to the hospital after he tried to commit suicide by drinking muriatic acid inside a room of Vista Hotel in Sta. Cruz, Manila, where he hid after committing the crime.
The police team, along with Gloria’s father and a nephew, went to the Metropolitan Medical Center where they found the suspect undergoing treatment.
The suspect was placed under hospital arrest. He underwent inquest proceedings inside the hospital for murder and parricide charges. (Freddie C. Velez)
